Get a part-time job

Have you ever heard someone say, “Take it easy” or “Don’t work too hard”? Some think these are the keys to a happy life. But hard workers are generally happy people. This is because God designed us to work. People who do not work when they are capable of it are usually unhappy and listless.

Jobs can be exhausting, but they provide many benefits:

  • A job forces you to manage your time, and because of this, you end up using it more wisely than otherwise.
  • A job helps you become useful by doing something others value.
  • A job enables you to build skills.
  • A job helps you figure out how to get along with a wide variety of people.
  • A job provides income, allows you to save money, and enables you to help others who are in need.
  • A job helps you identify things you like to do and are good at.
  • A job might help you identify a calling or something you feel led to do.
  • A job helps you build friendships.
  • A job can help you become a leader.
  • A job encourages learning, and your new knowledge can help you provide better service and earn a higher income.

How to get a job

Many employers require you to apply online, such as Chick-fil-A. However, it never hurts to show up and ask for a job. Years ago, I went to a car dealership and asked to speak with the hiring manager. I did not apply online because I knew my chances of getting hired were higher if I applied in person. I interviewed on the spot and was offered a job.

You could enter a business, ask for the hiring manager, express your interest in a part-time role, and request an informational interview before submitting your application. This will help you learn about the jobs and determine if you are interested in them. It will also allow the employer to experience your can-do, positive attitude, which will increase your chances of getting a job offer.

When you meet the hiring manager, smile, maintain eye contact, and shake hands. During an interview, you should aim for confidence and accuracy in your answers. (You can do more than you probably think you can.)

If you are rejected, don’t let it bother you too much. Take it in stride, and look for another opportunity.

Job tips

One should not expect to find a perfect job. No job is perfect. Your goal is to do your job well and honestly, learn, and develop character.

The following tips will help you become a star employee:

  1. Keep your uniform clean, pressed, and your appearance neat and tidy.
  2. Arrive early for work.
  3. Look people in the eye, smile, and say good morning.
  4. Be friendly, stay focused on your job, and be quick to offer assistance.
  5. Own your job: learn what your role requires and do it excellently with a good attitude.
  6. Notice what your coworkers do well.
  7. Notice problems, find solutions, and after work, write the solutions down in a notebook. Learn everything you can about the business.

If you consistently do these things, you may get a promotion, a raise, a new job opportunity, or a positive referral. At the very least, you will have the satisfaction of a job well done, and you will become someone others enjoy working with.
