What to do
Pick one thing that you can manage daily. Decide to do it every day for your family. Own it completely.
- Washing dishes
- Dealing with the trash
- Mowing the lawn and doing yardwork
- Picking stuff up and keeping things neat around the house
- Folding the laundy
- Cooking a meal during the week or on the weekends
- Vacuuming and cleaning the floors
- Ironing cloths
- Running errands
What I do
I try to wash the dishes every day for my family. This takes a load off the cook and helps everyone enjoy the day.
Tips
- Start slowly: your parent(s) may be used to doing particular chores.
- Offer to help.
- Be persistent: start doing it more.
- Once you become the go-to person for a simple task, start looking for something a bit more complicated. Your confidence and know-how will grow.
