One of the most interesting books I’ve ever read. It’s the story about America, the causes of its founding, the most important events and themes, and its leaders. Wilfred McClay endeavors, and I think succeeds, to explain what makes America a land of hope.
Leaders covered include Christopher Columbus, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., and many more. Events include unsettlement in Europe, the Revolutionary War, industrialization, the Civil War, modernization, the World Wars, and beyond.
The author excels at engagingly revealing the big picture and connecting the dots between major events and leaders. I can’t recommend it enough.
